Meet Road Side Rose Trading, Co., one of our woman-owned local gems and a vendor at our December 2015 meet. Run by Riley DoRight, Road Side Rose is its own "little magical hobbit hole" of treasures. Learn more about Riley below and visit Road Side Rose Trading Co. at 2213 S First Austin Tx 78704 (aka Slackerville)

Q: What inspired you to start your business? Did you have any role models or learn from someone, in particular?

A: I have a background in art and retail, so the combination of the two is my life today. I love finding treasures and helping them find their home. My role model and mentor would be Cathleen Day, the woman that owns Crystal Works off of 12th and Lamar. She's a beautiful, kind, vibrant goddess, and her store is a reflection of that.

Q: Do you have any tidbits of advice for people with passions, in general?

A: Jump... When you decide to do something (no matter what it is) do it to the fullest. The universe will provide.

Q: What have been your favorite moments of creativity?

A: My life and shop are full of happy accidents. Each has a story. I mostly enjoy collaboration with other movers and shakers. I learn so much from watching how other people problem-solve.

Q: What have been your most challenging moments in your career, thus far?

A: Every day is a challenge. The weather this fall was probably the most recent. I learned to go with the flow, and no matter how prepared you are, Mother Nature wins.

Q: What's your day job?

A: 24/7 mover-and-shaker.

Q: When you're discouraged, what do you run to or away from?

A: On more than one occasion, I have gone to Crystal Works in search of comfort and connection.

Your favorite band at the moment: Local band, The Love Leighs

Your favorite book at the moment: I wont have time to read 'til February, but "The I Ching" by Brian Browne Walker is my daily.

Your local Austin gem: My own! Road Side Rose Trading Co. on 2213 S First St., right behind Amelia's Retro Vogue in Slackerville... one of the last old-school South Austin artist communities.
