#bbatx 2018 volunteer committee applications

#bossbabesATX is a nonprofit event series and collective. We develop programming (meet-ups, seminars, markets, festivals and other pop-up events) to amplify and connect self-identifying women in creative industry and the arts. Our productions center on community infrastructure, the arts, activism, entrepreneurialism and personal and professional development.

Since we've been in operation, we've thrown more than 50 events, totaling 15,000 guests. We've provided a platform of visibility, outreach and financial opportunity to 300+ Texas-based women artists, 400+ women-owned businesses and women activists. We were named "Best Bossy Babes" of 2015 by The Austin Chronicle, Tribeza's Top 10 to Watch in 2016 and we were selected by The White House to attend the United State of Women Summit in June 2016 for our work in Texas. Our work is driven forward by a volunteer programming committee, a network of volunteers, a volunteer board of directors and two staffers. Though our bandwidth is tight, our impact is broad, because of the incredibly talented and creative people who bring value and actionable purpose to our productions, mission and goals.Apply to become a part of our volunteer programming committee below.


Every programming season (our season begins in January of each year), we accept five to 15 new committee members to develop, contribute and assist with a variety of our productions and community infrastructure work.

Here's a quick snapshot of what being a committee member looks like:

1.) You meet with the #bbatx staff monthly to review programming, suggest new ideas and develop productions and initiatives.
2.) You choose a "swim lane," or an area of expertise by which to center your energy and contribution to the development of #bbatx. Your "swim lane" could include graphic design, event production, fundraising, brand management, social media, community outreach, grants, PR, etc.
3.) You contribute to the research and education of #bbatx's committee and volunteers; our productions are only meaningful if they provide an empowered and educated resource to the community. Our research typically extends to topics that intersect with our five tenets: community infrastructure, the arts, activism, entrepreneurialism and personal and professional development.
4.) You regularly attend #bbatx events and become a visible member of our community.
5.) You work with the committee to form community-positive coalitions with other organizations and businesses.
6.) You hold the nonprofit accountable to its mission and goals of inclusivity and forward-thinking approaches to gender equity.
7.) You get a new group of friends... and the list goes on. :)

Typically, committee members dedicate between 5 and 10 hours of their month to #bbatx committee duties and are subject to a one-year programming term. We accept between five to 15 members per season, depending on the nonprofit's immediate needs and applicants' expertise.
