SIX SQUARE ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS ON EAST AUSTIN MURALS

Community meetings will be held Oct 2, 16 and 30 at Wesley United Methodist Church (1164 San Bernard Austin, TX 78702)

AUSTIN, TEXAS – After the controversial removal of the mural located at the intersection of E. 12th and Chicon streets this spring Six Square, a nonprofit that celebrates and preserves African American culture in East Austin, became its conservator. Today the organization invites the community to join a series of conversations regarding the E. 12th Street mural and others located within the state-designated black cultural district, which sits just east of downtown Austin. • Dr. Tara Dudley, Lecturer, University of Texas School of Architecture
• Roland Hayes, Director & Professor, African-American Cultural Center, Austin Community College
• Chris Rogers, Artist of the original E. 12th & Chicon streets mural
• Dr. John Yancey, Professor of Studio Art (Painting & Drawing), University of Texas
