CREATING COMMUNITY MEDIA w/ Austin While Black

  • The Cantina 2209 South 1st St. Unit B Austin, TX 78704 United States of America (map)

This event is part of #bossbabesATX Shop Talk series, a year-long program of free discussion-based workshops taught by different women in the Austin community.

Join us for CREATING COMMUNITY MEDIA, a shop talk led by the directors of Austin While Black, Doyin Oyeniyi and Evelyn Ngugi.

"Getting started on a new project can seem daunting, especially when that project is in a relatively new medium such as a web series and you don’t know where or how to get started. Using our experiences as co-creators of a web series, Austin While Black, we’ll explain our process for completing an episode -- from getting equipment and finding a subject to choosing publishing platforms and sharing on social media. We’ll also discuss mistakes we’ve made, how to avoid them, and open the floor for answering questions and providing feedback throughout the workshop."

About our workshop hosts:

Doyin Oyeniyi and Evelyn Ngugi both graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Journalism. Ngugi works in social media and video production at Naturally Curly while also maintaining a Youtube Channel as Evelyn From the Internets. Oyeniyi is an AmeriCorps member at an Austin non-profit and a freelance writer writing for TexasMonthly.com. Together they created the web series, Austin While Black, a web series sharing the stories of Black Austinites.
