Beth Consetta Rubel: Conversations with Contemporary Artists

  • 1165 Angelina Street Austin, TX, 78702 United States (map)

Beth Consetta Rubel’s most recent body of work satirically recasts controversial celebrities like Rachel Dolezal, Bill Cosby and Donald Trump in the form of familiar childhood toys and mechanical art. In this series, Rubel, an Austin-based visual artist, asks us to contemplate the lessons we are learning about race and sexuality from these sensational cases.

Most widely known for her “Brown Paper Bag Test Series,” Rubel’s work has been featured in galleries across the country and reviewed in Complex, POLITICO, For Harriet and Afropunk.

The artist will share her thoughts on the "Higher Learning” series, mass media and the treatment of black celebrities.

The City of Austin is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you require special assistance for participation in our programs or for use of our facilities, please call (512) 974-3914.
