Stitchin' is Bitchin' : Embroidery Basics

  • 900 Vargas Road Austin, TX, 78741 United States (map)

Learn the basics of embroidery in this workshop for artists of all levels.   Welcome to Embroidery: the art of making fanciful designs on fabric with needle and thread. This workshop will help you make all of the quirky patches that your granny would make, but with a fresh style! You will learn the beginning steps of embroidery such as tightly putting our cloth on our embroidery frame, saving thread techniques, different sewing patterns, and how to deal with the physical pains of stabbing your finger with a sharp needle.  For this workshop you will be starting with either drawings or found images, then transferring the drawings onto fabric, and learning some basic embroidery stitches. Feel free to bring drawings, ideas, and images, but if you’re not sure of what you might like to draw/stitch, we’ll have some magazines to flip through for inspiration.

You will also learn talk techniques for hanging and displaying finished pieces.   $12 Early Bird Tix $14 Tix  Instructor Julia Zipporah Allen (@julia.zipporah) is an artist that works with various mediums, from experimental video art, embroidery, illustration, collaging and anything else that she can get her hands on to express her inner self.   For more information click here.
