Join us for the ~ yellow hour. ~
This International Women's Day, we're gathering as a community. On March 8, 2018 at this Yellow Hour, we'll paint with our April and May 2018, Kwanzaa Edwards, to create a mural for CraftHER Market Spring '18 that captures the collaborative ethos of that pop-up. Moreover, last year's featured market artist, DJ Mahealani, will be joining us to spin some vinyl. (#fullcircle)
Our friend Solaris Reads Tarot will also be on deck giving readings, Space 24 Twenty has coordinated a kickass raffle to benefit the Workers Defense Project and Casa Marianella, and Frank will be keeping us fed with some happy hour specials. Come one, come all and come dressed in yellow. On top of this event's special agenda, we'll also toast to last summer's Unity in Color: Austin shoot and reflect on the progress all who participated in that shoot have made over the last six months.
See ya next Thursday! No RSVP required. (PS: The official afterparty for this event is ATX Celebrates International Women's Day 2018. Come to both!)
— MEET THE ARTISTS —
Edwards is a mixed media painter who currently lives and works in San Antonio, Texas. Her work depicts the female figure in otherworldly realms, presenting them alongside a psychological situation. Her beautiful characters are placed unapologetically in their respective universes. These are settings for which the constraints of logic does not exist therefore anything is possible. The confidence and strength shown in Kwanzaa’s ladies draw the viewer into their world, placing the viewer in the same frame of mind.
DJ Mahealani is a mixed media, multidisciplinary artist. "i spin vinyl spells. it's lunar bump from get down galaxies. it's new wave old school. it's dusty old jams from the space age, & modern beats from back in the day. i flip the familiar into ancient codes + future myths, and it makes heart beats + booties collide."
