The Residency 2019: Volume Two

  • The Line Hotel Austin 111 East Cesar Chavez Street Austin, TX, 78701 United States (map)

From April to September each year, BBATX curates a monthly residency highlighting the work of 10 to 15, Texas-based women and nonbinary visual and musical artists that create work and perform in our programs.

This year, join us at The Line Hotel Austin pool deck every first Thursday in April through September to enjoy art and a DJ set, celebrating the work of women artists in #BBATX’s 2019 residency. Dancing, swimsuits (optional) and it’s-almost-the-weekend behavior encouraged. :)

Amanda Vaughn As a zine-maker, DJ, and visual artist, Amanda Vaughn creates interdisciplinary and experimental work through the lens of a scientist. In her paintings she uses a robust palette to depict a world viewable only by microscope in mural-sized portraits of proteins and fantastical cellscapes. Vaughn has created nine volumes of BEARCAT, a zine which combines collage, scientific literature, and humor with a picture book aesthetic. Both performance and radio-based, Amanda’s DJ sets collage and mix vinyl from different eras, genres, and continents to create novel sonic environments.

The Residency 2019 is produced and presented by #bossbabesATX, with support from The Line Hotel Austin. The lineup has been curated by #BBATX committee member Xochi Solis. <3

About #bossbabesATX: We’re a Texas-based nonprofit that amplifies and connects women and nonbinary creatives, entrepreneurs and organizers. We create space to share our crafts, catalyze multi-industry coalitions, promote intersectionality across disciplines, seek guidance and provide each other with practical and emotional resources. Anyone interested in our mission, core values, and initiatives are invited to participate—and learn more about how intersectional gender equality can improve their daily lives. We provide 1500 opportunities to women and nonbinary creatives, entrepreneurs and community organizers per year. More than 15,000+ community members also annually attend our showcases, markets and dialogues—and in the last three years, our programs generated an additional $1million for the Austin economy. So, whether you apply to participate in one of our programs, attend our workshops, conferences and dialogues, or come out to a festival or market to support the community we’re building, you’re a member of this movement. All babes, all people, are welcome. :) Learn more at bossbabes.org.
