Meet The 16 Women And Nonbinary Creatives In Our Annual Residency
Today, we are proud to introduce you to the 16 multidisciplinary artists and DJs joining our 2020 residency.
If you’re not familiar with our residency, each year we curate a monthly pop-up from April to September highlighting the work of 10 to 15, Texas-based women and nonbinary visual and musical artists to create work and perform in our programs. Beyond these seasonal events, resident artists work with the bbatx team and its collaborators to produce site-specific commissions and exhibitions within our programming, including our series with the Elisabet Ney Museum Meet Her Hands. We also invite the public to learn more about the artists’ process, approach and the sustainability of their practice through various community events, exhibitions and collaborations, while resident artists apply their skills and expertise toward community issues.

Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Aimée is a visual artist whose work employs abstraction and figurative work to explore communication, gender, race, psychology, and social commentary. Aimée M. Everett lives and works in Austin, Texas.
Andie Flores is a clown, writer, performance & visual artist, and comedian. She performs drag and experimental comedy all over town, with an ongoing artistic focus on audience, excess, and legacy. She is currently a PhD student in Mexican American Latinx Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
catie lewis is a self taught artist + muralist living in austin, tx. she fills her pieces with bold colors and intricate lines, shaping compositions around chaos and simplicity. her life-long dreams include beautifying walls worldwide, opening a bright yellow cafe in siargao and helping other young womxn to be fearless in pursuing their passions.
Bragglights is an Experimental Techno/Dance Music project produced & performed by the artist, Jenna Herrington. Cast as a black sheep during her childhood in South-East Texas, her creative direction derives from the “Lights of Saratoga” aka “Bragg Lights” which are most famously known as mysterious lights that wander the forests & railroads of her homeland.
Mural Nomad is a project by artist Lina Zuluaga, a Colombian designer & user interface engineer based in Austin Texas. She is interested in our relationship with technology and uses a blend of hand & digitally made images to create abstract moments in time. She uses symbols and non linear storytelling and has been inspired by art history, technology, cartoons, music and new art processes. Photo by Stefania Antonucci
DJ Arlini Martini is an all vinyl oldies, soul, garage and punk deejay originally from the Rio Grande Valley. She blends yesterday’s favorites with obscure forgotten songs to create frenzied dance parties.
La Moon is a recording artist, DJ, radio personality and co-owner of Night Owl Studio in Austin, Texas. Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, La Moon loved music since she can remember. In 2012, She started DJing every weekend at a popular club in Old San Juan and has performed in Miami, Colombia, New York, California, New Jersey, Chicago and more. La Moon goal is to perform and have her music heard around the world. Her supporters gave her the title "La Reina del Perreo" because they love her explosive Reggaeton/Perreo DJ Sets.
In 2019, La Moon started releasing original music in Spanish and singing live. Her popular songs are "Lunática", "Violenta" and "Algo Sexual" some real sexy dancing bops. She will release her debut EP "La Reina del Perreo" April 20, 2020. You can hear her energetic and bumpin' DJ sets and hangout with her Monday-Friday 12pm-1pm through Enchufe Radio Digital, a Latino radio station on her own show "El Happy Hour con La Moon. She really enjoys collabing and creating with other like minded individuals and strives to provide a comfortable, professional, creative with good vibes recording studio called Night Owl Studios with her fianceé and two great friends.
Juanita Segovia (they/them) is an Austin based creative specializing in design, illustration, and screen printing. Utilizing a stream of consciousness method of creating, Juanita’s drawings are often an unpredictable combination of reappropriated popular imagery and original designs and writing. Their work comes to life as limited edition zines, prints, apparel and other art objects— emphasizing a fun, accessible, and DIY approach to creating.
Melissa Seely is curator of the Me Mer Mo Monday music series at Volstead Lounge. After graduating in 2012 from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Anthropology, American Studies and Music, she became a member of local community arts organization Church of the Friendly Ghost. She spends her time organizing shows, making collages and flier art, DJing, and performing in ambient music duo Unlucky Beekeeper.
Born in Denver and raised in Seattle; Megan has always been surrounded by and involved in art, design, and other creative outlets. After starting her degrees in Architecture, she became interested in photography; and its ability to capture and tell a story through light. For Megan, her excitement in both art and design stem from observing the beautiful intricacies of the human condition, and revealing them to others through whatever medium fits best.
Paloma Mayorga is an interdisciplinary artist and independent curator based in Austin, Texas. She uses unconventional forms of photography to document the body and other natural objects, creating intricate self-portraits that beg the viewer to consider the subtleties of touch.
Pos Wow is a Mexican-Austinite producer, DJ and artist. Pos Wow’s rowdy, deeply rooted live sets reflect her experience of attending too many Quinceañera & bodas and her recent influences of disco, house, pop and anything in between.
Misa Yamamoto is a Graphic Designer and Art Director for visual arts collective, Essentials Creative, based in Austin, Texas. Essentials incorporate multi-faceted disciplines such as photography, fashion, graphic design, video, projection, animation, music, and installation. Although a single image may include many Essentials members, there is always a unified vision of experimentation, fluidity, and diversity.
Natalia Rocafuerte is a Mexican-American new media artist, filmmaker and community organizer creating work on perception, analog technology and spatial identity.Encouraging a phenomenological experience by using unconventional technologies, Rocafuerte views her work as a broadcast of alternative narratives and self perceptions. She is also a recent fellow for the New York Foundation for the Arts Immigrant Mentorship program and has work currently exhibiting in San Antonio for Xicanx.
Whitney Batres is a visual artist who currently resides in Austin, Texas with her husband and their cat, Karen. In 2015, she graduated with a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin and stuck around for the people and the food. Her inspiration comes from family and cultural traditions of domestic craft, and aims to bridge the gap between craft and fine art in her work.
Sonya Gonzales is a sound artist from Austin, Texas. Fascinated with self-organization and assemblage, she uses sound to research interactions within generative systems, utilizing media and technology.
