At bbatx, our programs are effectively postponed through May 1 due to COVID-19 orders. And we are taking the hit—we want to flatten the curve. We’re thinking you’re probably right there with us. And if you’re anything like our team, staying put and staying quiet isn’t quite what we do best. Especially in times of uncertainty.

So, to keep us indoors and connected, we’re launching STAY HOME CLUB. STAY HOME CLUB is a once-weekly virtual gathering on Saturdays in April, featuring creatives, entrepreneurs and leaders from our programs. We’re going to share resources, explore rest and new routines, talk about layoffs and career pivots and show up for our creative and small business community.

— A craftHER Market Digital Pop-up : SCHEDULE OF E-VENTS —

On April 11, 2020, we’re hosting an all-day digital version of craftHER Market, our biannual market showcasing the talent of women and nonbinary makers in Texas.

In case you missed it, our spring craftHER Market was originally scheduled for April 11 and 12. As a result of COVID-19, it has been postponed to August 1 and 2. So, join us as we rally to support our small business and creative community anyway!

10:00 AM CT: We’ll start the day with a Small Business and Solopreneur Pivoting + Planning workshop. Log on and tune in at 10 AM for a panel and hands-on exercise led by our founding Executive and Creative Director Jane Hervey and joined by Women@Austin CEO and Executive Director Jessica Gaffney, as well as trademark attorney Nik Sallie Franklin. (This is designed for small businesses, start-up entrepreneurs and solopreneurs/freelancers navigating COVID-19 changes and concerns.)

11:00 AM CT: Our craftHER Digital Marketplace officially goes live! Head to crafthermarket.com to directly support local women and nonbinary makers who had planned to exhibit with us in the spring. The shop will be live through Sunday, April 12 at 11 PM.

12:00 PM CT: Doors for our demos are officially open! Feel free to log on to Zoom, say hi, and get comfortable before our first art demo begins.

12:15 PM to 12:45 PM CT: Join us on Zoom as we host our first interactive art demo of the day, a DIY natural dye-making session led by multidisciplinary artist, designer, educator and former bbatx committee member Coelina Edwards. Pre-order your own DIY natural dye kit at www.shopseephillips.com.

1:00 PM to 1:45 PM CT: Time for our second art demo! Learn about the meditational aspects of mending one’s clothing all in an effort to demystify the experience of sewing with artist, costume designer and bbatx committee member Stephanie Page.

2:00 PM to 2:45 PM CT: Our last art demo will feature marble-dying led by Austin-based artist and designer Mercedez Rex.

Jane Claire Hervey

Originally from the small town of Rio Hondo, Texas, Jane Hervey (she/her) is a creative producer and musician, living and working in Austin, Texas. She is the founding director of bbatx, and actively designs communication strategies and experiences for other arts and entertainment organizations, nonprofits and creative start-ups. As an artist, since putting out her first four-track EP “Sour Grapefruit” in 2019, she has opened for OSHUN, Nomi Ruiz, Bunny Michael and more. Her work has been profiled in publications like Texas Monthly and Forbes, and in 2017 she was inducted into the City of Austin's Women's Hall of Fame. You can learn more at janeclairehervey.com.

Jessica Gaffney

Jess Gaffney is the CEO & Executive Director of Women@Austin, where she steers the organization's mission to advance women entrepreneurs. As an advocate for all women, Jess brings her passion for inclusive and equitable entrepreneurial success to her role. She is an entrepreneur herself, having co-founded Pro Mama, a community and resource for mothers to help them find flexible work. She has over 15 years of experience in development and marketing in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.

Nik Sallie Franklin

Nik Sallie Franklin is a trademark attorney and branding expert who works with women entrepreneurs to create legally protected, soul-injected brands that manifest their purpose into profits. She’s sharing lessons learned from her years of experience in law, tech and marketing to help her clients confidently avoid costly mistakes, stay legally protected while building their dream business and live their true purpose. Coelina Edwards

Coelina Edwards is a multidisciplinary artist and the founder of Shop See Phillips, a Austin-based home goods brand. See Phillips offers natural dyed silk goods made with love in Austin, Texas. Coelina Edwards started See Phillips in 2018 with the mission to create a space to spread happiness + love and to reduce the stress of artists, makers, and organizers in her community.  Austin took to her positive energy and genuine desire to share with others. The brand has evolved. Stephanie Page

Stephanie Page is an artist who is curious about the ways our clothing choices shape the world and our interactions with others. Born in Houston, Stephanie spent their teen years as an international fashion model, worked in the NYC fashion industry, and has lived in Austin for 7 years. You can find Stephanie in the studio creating costumes for stage or everyday life, concocting kitchen magic, or scooting around town or to the greenbelt. You can find them on Instagram at @vividvoltage.

Mercedez Rex

Mercedez Rex is an Austin-based artist and creativity enthusiast who favors processes that allow for chance, unpredictability and play. She began experimenting with surface design in textiles in 2013 and shortly thereafter founded her eponymous collection of accessories and home goods. After discovering the magic of water marbling, her focus shifted from dyes on textiles to pigments mono-printed on silk, leather and paper. She shares this mesmerizing art via workshops, event activations and DIY art parties as a means of igniting the creative spark in others.

— HOW TO RSVP —

All events within the STAY HOME CLUB series require an individual RSVP and can be attended for free or by donation. The series begins at 5 PM CT on April 4 and ends at 6:30 PM CT on April 25.

To RSVP for events in the series, select one or all events you’d like to virtually attend. For every event you’re RSVPd to, you’ll receive a pre-event email at least 24 hours in advance, containing relevant links, schedule info and ZOOM meeting invitations.
