How do you show your body kindness? In this #BBATX workshop, artist, photographer and creative entrepreneur Jinni J invites you to contribute toward her ongoing series, “Body, A Love Letter.” From 1 to 4 PM at the #BBATX headquarters on August 17, come through to celebrate your skin, share messages of kindness and have your portrait taken by Jinni J.
This workshop has limited capacity (so Jinni J has a chance to shoot and work with everyone), and only 25 slots are available. To attend, please grab your $10 RSVP. ~ All bodies are good bodies, and all bodies are welcome. ~
This workshop is part of SHE TALKS, #BBATX’s ongoing discussion-based series exploring personal and professional development series, tackling topics from finances to intersectional feminism. Learn more at bossbabes.org/programming.
— ABOUT BODY, A LOVE LETTER —
Originally made as a series of self-portraits, “Body, A Love Letter” is an exercise in vulnerability and explores love and relationships, particularly with oneself. From the artist:
"This series was really a happy accident.I didn’t realize at the time that I was building towards something bigger. All I had in mind was I need to be kinder to myself. At the start of this project I was coming out of a long-term relationship and feeling all the emotions that come with that. Single and at times feeling lonely, at times feeling unlovable. I was starting to become more aware of the mean statements I was telling myself. That’s when I started to put words on the outside of myself and my environment. I’d be having a rough day or just feeling self-critical and it became an exercise to flip it. To make it something sweet or encouraging. All of the photos here are un-edited and taken on my phone. This is unlike all my other work, in that I normally do not photograph myself or take photos on my phone. Typically this is not anything that I would print or show, but this in itself is an exercise in vulnerability for myself. These photos are now a part of a growing series called Body, A Love Letter. I have been bringing this exercise to other people in the form of pop-up photoshoots and sessions at my studio in which I walk people through a series of questions and we arrive at a statement they need in the moment. I then photograph them with the kind words living on the outside. Everyone struggles to be loving to themselves, but I hope these images serve as a little reminder that you can be." - JINNI J.
