โ€” ABOUT BODY, A LOVE LETTER โ€”

Originally made as a series of self-portraits, โ€œBody, A Love Letterโ€ is an exercise in vulnerability and explores love and relationships, particularly with oneself. From the artist:

"This series was really a happy accident.I didnโ€™t realize at the time that I was building towards something bigger. All I had in mind was I need to be kinder to myself. At the start of this project I was coming out of a long-term relationship and feeling all the emotions that come with that. Single and at times feeling lonely, at times feeling unlovable. I was starting to become more aware of the mean statements I was telling myself. Thatโ€™s when I started to put words on the outside of myself and my environment. Iโ€™d be having a rough day or just feeling self-critical and it became an exercise to flip it. To make it something sweet or encouraging. All of the photos here are un-edited and taken on my phone. This is unlike all my other work, in that I normally do not photograph myself or take photos on my phone. Typically this is not anything that I would print or show, but this in itself is an exercise in vulnerability for myself. These photos are now a part of a growing series called Body, A Love Letter. I have been bringing this exercise to other people in the form of pop-up photoshoots and sessions at my studio in which I walk people through a series of questions and we arrive at a statement they need in the moment. I then photograph them with the kind words living on the outside. Everyone struggles to be loving to themselves, but I hope these images serve as a little reminder that you can be." - JINNI J.
