From April to September each year, BBATX curates a monthly residency highlighting the work of 10 to 15, Texas-based women and nonbinary visual and musical artists that create work and perform in our programs.
This year, join us at The Line Hotel Austin pool deck every first Thursday in April through September to enjoy art and a DJ set, celebrating the work of women artists in #BBATX’s 2019 residency. Dancing, swimsuits (optional) and it’s-almost-the-weekend behavior encouraged. :)

Free and open to the public, the final night of The Residency opens on September 5, 2019 from 8 PM to 11 PM on The LINE Austin’s pool deck. As the finale for this program, this one-night event also serves as the opening reception for BABES FEST 2019, our annual creative arts festival. Eileen Wu
eileen is a doer and creator from houston, tx. working full-time as a graphic designer in austin, tx. grabbing inspiration from the mundane + beautiful. probably spending down time reading philosophy books on a hill somewhere. wants to become an art teacher soon, and a jazz singer after retiring. type 1 enneagram, 126 archetype, INFJ, Virgo (if you care about those things).
Karen Navarro
Navarro is a Houston-based Argentinian-born mixed media and fine art photographer. Her fine art and constructed portraits are known for the use of color theory, surreal scenes and minimalist details. Navarro's work approaches contemporary, issues related to identity, femininity, and sexuality. The highly stylized images are tied to Navarro's background in fashion design, she studied at The University of Buenos Aires (UBA). She lives in Houston since 2014 where she completed the certificate program in photography at Houston Center for Photography. In 2018, Navarro has been awarded a scholarship at Glassell School of Art | The Museum of Fine Art Houston where she studied analog photography. Most recently Navarro has received the Artadia fellowship 2019. Navarro's work has been exhibited in the US and abroad. Her most recent shows include Melkweg, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2019), Presa House Gallery, San Antonio TX (2019), Museo de la Reconquista, Tigre, Argentina (2018), The Union, Houston, TX (2018), Houston Center for Photography, Houston, TX (2018), HCC Northline Art Gallery, Houston, TX (2018), Art League Gallery, Alexandria, VA (2018) and Trio Contemporary Art Gallery, Athens, GA (2017).
Laurel Barickman
Laurel Barickman, aka Recspec, has been an obsessive music listener from a very young age as her extensive collection of records shows. Specializing in experimental music, electronics, psych, soul, dark country, and anything slightly off-kilter, her DJ sets are always completely unique, and always a journey from start to finish.
